just trying something different

first sketches/doodles from california

i'm here!! california! staying at a hotel for a day with my wonderful momma, then moving into the apartment tomorrow. very exciting. i start my internship at Screen Novelties on Wednesday! woohoo! i only hear good things about the internship experience there, so i'm very glad.

i did the first two doodles on the plane, just trying to get the fuzzies from my brain out. i'm not as used to doodling for fun as i'd like to admit. the last one is some attempts at people-watching while waiting around at the car rental place. as you can see. very rusty, lol.

(photos are rough because i just had to use my iphone to get the shots haha. but i kind of like it this way because it keeps me moving)

hopefully my people-drawing will get better. i also need a good pen for sketching...hms!

i don't know why, but there's something wonderful about a good sandwich, haha.
also, i'm going to be using photoshop a lot this summer, as i'll have limited access to scanner/materials.

very excited and very terrified. never lived on west coast before. i won't have a car, so i'm not sure how i'll do. HA. not that i'm used to driving.
but i think this will be a good experience for me.
i'll be interning at Screen Novelties twice a week! woohoo! ana landed real internship, somehow!

it's a goal of mine to become comfortable with drawing people, men in particular. i've always struggled with it, and so i've avoided it. but i know the only way around it is to recognize there is no way around it. so, i'm going to just. go for it.
can't be good until i'm over being very bad, no? haha.

and also to doodle often. i realized that i'm not quite sure what it is i'm especially good at, and i think that's okay, as long as i keep at it.

finally

i made this poster design for our junior show! maybe because people in animation don't often show their work in public spaces like other artists, but seeing the posters hung up around campus gave me a really fuzzy feeling. not that i haven't made posters before, but this one is special.

i drew the characters on tracing paper and inked by hand. scanned them into photoshop and finished it all off.

in our department, your work isn't screened on the BIG screen until end of junior year, so this is the first time i'll be seeing my work on the big the big screen! i can't believe it's finished, but it is!

and i hope to be able to share it with everyone, soon. (i suspect i will have to hold off on public links until my festival submissions are over).

frankly, i don't expect to get anything, but i feel like since i've worked so hard, and i have the time, i should just try. we'll see how it goes!

spring semester, finally over. now there is senior year to look forward to.

 

i can't wait to start doodling everything with a clear mind.

doodle in finals season

next week is DA BIG WEEK. not going to get much sleep until next thursday. FINALS.
had been a while since i posted and since i doodled without caring what it looked like lol. did it in less than an hour, i know it's sloppy. but i just wanted to get it out of my system. i realized that i was more narcissistic than i thought because i default to drawing myself HAHAHA. i'm not quite sure what creature i drew. maybe a fox? i like foxes. not quite a dog. not quite a cat.
